NovoRapid is slightly different from the usual human hormone, so it starts to act faster, and patients can start eating immediately after injection. Compared with traditional insulins, NovoRapid shows better results: diabetics stabilize glucose after a meal, and the amount and severity of nighttime hypoglycemia decreases. The advantages include the stronger effect of the drug, which allows most people with diabetes to reduce its dosage.
The main action of NovoRapid, like any other insulin, is the reduction of blood sugar. It significantly improves the permeability of cell membranes, allowing glucose to go inside, activates glucose splitting reactions, increases glycogen stores in muscles and liver, stimulates the synthesis of fats and proteins.
Effect for athletes
increased cell uptake of glucose and other substances;
activation of key glycolysis enzymes;
an increase in the intensity of glycogen synthesis — insulin forces glucose to be stored in the liver and muscles by polymerizing it to glycogen;
decrease in the intensity of gluconeogenesis — the formation in the liver of glucose from various substances of a non-carbohydrate nature (proteins and fats) is reduced.
enhances cellular uptake of amino acids (especially leucine and valine);
enhances the transport of potassium ions into the cell, as well as magnesium and phosphate;
enhances DNA replication and protein biosynthesis;
enhances the synthesis of fatty acids and their subsequent esterification - in the adipose tissue and in the liver, insulin contributes to the conversion of glucose into triglycerides; with a lack of insulin, the opposite happens - fat mobilization.
inhibits protein hydrolysis - reduces protein degradation;
reduces lipolysis - reduces the flow of fatty acids in the blood.
The right amount is calculated depending on the content of carbohydrates in food. The dose increaseswith severe physical exertion, stress, diseases with fever.
Instructions for use
The preparation NovoRapid is injectedsubcutaneouslyin the region of the anterior abdominal wall, thigh, shoulder, deltoid or gluteal region. Injection sites should be constantly changed within the same anatomical region to reduce the risk of lipodystrophy. As with all insulin preparations,subcutaneousadministration to the anterior abdominal wall provides faster absorption compared with administration to other areas.
The specific dose required for overdose has not been established, however, hypoglycemia may develop gradually if excessive doses are administered in relation to the patient’s needs.
The patient can eliminate a slight hypoglycemia by ingesting glucose or sugar-containing foods. Therefore, patients with diabetes are advised to constantly carry with them sugar-containing products.
In the case of severe hypoglycemia, when the patient is unconscious, from 0.5 mg to 1 mg of glucagon should be injected intramuscularly or subcutaneously, or an intravenous solution of glucose (dextrose). It is also necessary to inject intravenously dextrose in case 10-15 minutes after the administration of glucagon the patient does not regain consciousness. After the recovery of consciousness, the patient is recommended to take carbohydrate-rich food to prevent the recurrence of hypoglycemia.
NovoRapid and needles are intended for individual use only. Do not refill the cartridge with a syringe pen.
NovoRapid cannot be used if it has ceased to be transparent and colorless, or if it has been frozen.
Do not use NovoRapid
in case of allergy (hypersensitivity) to insulin aspart or any other component of NovoRapid;
if you start hypoglycemia (low blood glucose);
if it is damaged or crushed;
if the storage conditions of the preparation were violated or it was frozen;
if insulin has ceased to be transparent and colorless.
